ROSS-DILON PLAYER
Born and Raised is a short film created with Ross Dillon Player, filmed in and around his home waters of Cape Town, South Africa. The project showcases a selection of the region’s most iconic and lesser-known locations, capturing the conditions and environments that have shaped Ross as an athlete. Rooted in place and community, the film reflects the deep connection between rider and landscape, while offering a glimpse into the culture, creativity, and energy that define Cape Town’s kitesurfing scene. Featuring an original soundtrack by Ami Faku, Born and Raised is both a personal portrait and a visual invitation to experience the region firsthand.
The project was filmed using a combination of in-water cinematography, drone filming, and long-lens techniques to capture both scale and intimacy, particularly during the Big Air sequences. Filming took place in extreme conditions, with wind speeds exceeding 50 knots and sand blasting along the beach, creating a highly challenging environment. These conditions demanded precise timing, physical resilience, and constant adaptation to safely capture the power, speed, and technical complexity of the riding while maintaining cinematic quality.
